Two Mallards - Could Have Been Worse

By Alison Jubb - 22 July 2014

In a previous life before bees, marriage and children I used to sell electronic components with an eclectic group of people who still have the ability to bring out the mischief and make me laugh until my sides hurt.

Last Friday was no exception.  During an evening where far too much wine had been supped and at the point where I was clearly responsible for World peace and saving the wildlife population of Norfolk single handedly, I found myself agreeing with Joan that I absolutely needed a goose and two ducks from the local rescue centre and that of course Richard wouldn't mind!

At 8.30 am, and with far too cheery a disposition for someone who went to bed at 3.00 am, Joan brought me a cup of tea and announced our imminent journey to Foxey Lodge animal rescue.  We arrived to find that the goose had already been found a home, (a silent phew from me).  On the lawn sat a roe deer fawn, a blind fox, some gulls and ducklings all muddling along together in close proximity - surreal.

I had two bright eyed and beautiful mallards in the boot of my car.... My opening line to Richard was "Darling we have new additions to the family, it could have been a lot worse".... A long suffering sigh and the question "Two legs or four?"....  Previous experiences have led him to expect the worst.
